                                                        Windows 7 GodMode

Call it the new TweakUI or a super sized Control Panel. GodMode reveals dozens of previously hidden or hard to find features.

There is no secret to GodMode folders as they are based on the Canonical Names of Control Panel Items. A simple search of the Windows 7 registry using the GUID (global Unique Identifier) for a GodMode folder will display additional useful information.

How to create a GodMode folder:
Right click on the Desktop and create a new folder. The trick is in the first and last parts of the folder name which are separated by a dot. The first part of the folder name can be any valid folder name immediately followed by a dot “MyFolderName.”. The second part of the folder name is the GUID for the Control Panel item “MyFolderName.{GUID}”.

Create a super sized GodMode Control Panel folder:
There is no need to use “GodMode” as part of the folder name, for example:
“Super Control Panel.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}”

Right click on the desktop and create a new folder. Next highlight and copy (Ctrl+C) the Super Control Panel folder name above (do not include the quotation marks). Now using the folder you just created right click and select the rename option and press the 'Delete' key to remove the existing text and then paste (Ctrl+V) the text you just copied into the folder name box. If you plan to create a significant number of these special folders it might help if you open Notepad and past the GUID strings (as listed in the article below) into Notepad from which you can later past into each GodMode folder name you create.

Tips:
Create a central folder:
There are dozens of these GodMode folders you can create and as a result you will end up with a cluttered desktop full of icons. You can place all these special folders inside one main folder on your desktop which you could name 'Tweak Toolbox'. Next drag each of your GodMode folders and drop it inside the toolbox folder. Now you will only have one icon on your desktop that contains all your GodMode folders.

Get rid of the long string of numbers and letters:
No doubt by now you have noticed the GodMode icon names on your desktop or in your toolbox folder contain not only the of the Control Panel item name but also at least some of the GUID string as well.

There are two methods that you can use to remove the unwanted text and still keep the special GodMode functionality.
1 The dot (period) that separates the Control Panel name from the GUID value can be preceded with spaces. This technique works even better if you have created a Central Folder and choose to display the icons in 'Detail Mode'.

2 You can create a Shortcut. Open the 'Tweak Toolbox' folder I mentioned earlier, right click on any GodMode folders you have created and choose the 'Send to' option and click on 'Desktop (create shortcut)'. Next right click on the desktop shortcut you just created and rename it by deleting the GUID string value. Now you have a centralized toolbox and a few shortcuts to the GodMode folders you use most often.
