Windows 10 market share December 2016 January 2017
January 12th, 2017
By: J. W. Stuart
Not much has changed since my last market shared report back in October of 2016. The expected surge from November December 2016 Christmas holiday sales never happened.
As of December 31st 2016 Windows 10’s share only increased by less than 2% to 24.36% while Windows 7’s share actually increased from 45.27% in October to 48.34%.
This is not all bad news as Windows 7 and 10 counting from their initial release date are about even in market share growth on a month by month basis.
Windows XP is at 9.07% virtually unchanged October’s 9.11% and Vista which holding at 1.06% of the market share. Windows 8 down to 1.66% and 8.1 dropped to 6.9%.
It should be noted that Vista gets the coup de grace (no more Windows Updates) on April 11th, 2017 which coincidentally is about the same time Microsoft releases the Windows 10 “Creators” update.
The down side is that any new growth must come at the expense of Windows 7 or new computer / device sales.
