Congress passed a law that requires discontinuing the sale of 100 watt incandescent light bulbs at the end of 2011. This will force consumers to purchase 100W CFL bulbs (with toxic mercury), the more efficient incandescent bulbs or very costly LED lamps.
The 60 and 100W CFL used in certain areas of my house sold by Sylvania are made in China. I also have a couple of “Lights of America” CFL(s) and they are also made in China also.
Correction June 8th: Sylvania’s new energy saving incandescent light bulbs are made in the United States; their LED lamps are made in one of three locations which includes the US.
What congress should have included as part of this law was that all the replacements for the old fashion Thomas Edison style bulbs (invented in the USA) is to mandate that these new style lamps be made in the USA. Not only would be saving energy but also creating jobs here. Instead we add to our national debt by sending our dollars to a communist nation.
