IE9 - Market Share Confusion.

“June was another good month for Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7.  IE9 has now become the most popular modern browser on Windows 7 in the US.  IE9 is now just second overall in the US behind IE8 with 21.8% usage share as of the last day of June.”

Did I miss something here, how can it be the “most popular” if it is second to IE8. If IE8 holds the market share then IE8 is the most popular.

This tidbit was posted on the Windows blog on June 30th:

On June 29th the blog had this article: IE 10 PP2 now available for download. PP2 is short for Platform Preview.

Looks like IE9 is going to have a short life for a popular browser.
